Interview with Michelle Pfeiffer

MichellePfeiffer.org

Below is an interview that I was able to do with Michelle. She had just returned from an "all-girl getaway" vacation with some close friends and family, her niece Michaela, and her sister-in-law Dana. Since they were all together, we decided to include all of them in the interview.

What is your favorite thing to wear?

Well, I have lots of favorites. I love all of my Armani clothes line, but around the house, I like the baggy stuff. Probably a pair of jeans and a sweat shirt.

If you could become any animal, what would you choose?

A monkey sounds like a good animal. No reasons, actually, just a monkey. Although I am not too fond of the "bug eating" ritual.

What do you like to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon?

Play with Claudia and John Henry, read a book, or just lay around enjoying the relaxation.

What do you like to collect and why?

I don't really have a specific thing that I collect, but I like angels.

What is your favorite color?

Blue

What one thing would people be very surprised to know about you?

Let's see. Maybe that I am not that bad of a singer? Ha! I come from a family without the talent to sing, but somehow I inherited something, and I am actually not too bad at it. I wouldn't make it a personal career or anything, but hey, it's an undercover talent.

Which movie did you have the most fun making? Why?

I have several. "What Lies Beneath" was my first thriller, and I had a blast working with Harrison Ford. We were talking one day, and we sort of realized that this is pretty much the first movie that he has been the bad guy. Not important stuff, but random. I didn't like the water scene in "Beneath." I have never been a fan of water. I couldn't tell you how many times we filmed those scenes. Another would be "Dangerous Minds", and I loved playing the voice of Tzipporah in "The Prince of Egypt."

What one thing do you respect most about Michelle?

Dana: She's extremely humble around everyone and very giving of herself.
Julia: Her quality of her work and her family.
Michaela: Her humbleness.

What is your favorite junk food to indulge in?

Vanilla Ice Cream!!!

What makes you laugh so hard that it makes your sides hurt?

Something funny that my family or friends do. For example, on the cruise I took with the Pfeiffers, one of our friends, Leisa, was playing shuffle board with Michaela, Priscila, Lisa and myself, and we couldn't figure out how to play. We were too crazy that day to go over calmly and ask how to play, so instead, we decided on sliding across the floor and pushing they ball-thing with our feet. Everyone completed the task, and when it was Leisa's turn, she slid across, slipped on who knows what, flipped over and landed on her butt! It was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time.

Describe the most fun that you've ever had with Michelle.

Michaela: Too many fun times to pick one. One of my favorites was when I flew to her house this past year, and we went shopping, had lunch together, saw a movie and then went to dinner. It was so fun! Another might be when
Michelle, our church's intern, Priscila and I went to Blockbuster to rent a movie sometime before the cruise, Priscila pretended she was deaf, and Michelle and I were doing sign language for her, and it was just hilarious!
Dana: She's a fun person. We have lunch and a movie date every time we visit each other, and those are probably the most fun.
Julia: Just lounging around the house are the memories with her I most cherish.

If you could make a sequel to any one of your movies, which would it be? Why?

Possibly one of my newer movies, "The Story of Us" or "What Lies Beneath," but I don't know how either could be made into a sequel.

Complete this sentence: I love my husband because...

He's the most wonderful man I have ever met. He's kind, sweet, whole-hearted, humble, intelligent, funny, good-looking, incredible, an amazing father. I could go on and on...

What do you do to balance time between your family and your work?

Usually I just play things by ear. Everything always works out with plenty of time for both. But, if I were to choose between the two, I would definitely choose my family.

How does having a celebrity in the family make life different?

Dana: I don't believe it does.
Michaela: I don't think it makes a big difference at all. Of course it does some, but in the long run, it's not going to get me anywhere. I am not going to be hired for a job because I know Michelle Pfeiffer, etc. I think if she were like you and me, that she would be just as fun.

Is there a particular charity that you support? Why?

The American Cancer Society. My niece had leukemia for 10 years, so our family has always been a huge supporter. I also contribute to the Humane Society, and several more.

Some people have complained about excessive sex and violence in movies. Do you think Hollywood should take more responsibility for content, or should parents more closely guard what their children watch?

Both. There isn't a need except for the demand of sexual content in movies. Hollywood should be more modest about what they submit to the public, and parents should not allow their children to see movies with ratings that do not suit them.

What goals do you have for your life? Where do you want to be in 10 years?

I've already met my goals. I've become successful in my career. I have a wonderful family, great friends. 10 years is too far in advance for me to plan!

Complete this sentence: I consider Michelle a friend because...

Julia: She's open with herself, giving of herself, and someone that I think everyone should have a chance to know.
Michaela: She's totally awesome, an incredible role model of following your dreams, and just a crazy person to know and have fun with.
Dana: I'm glad Michelle is my friend because she is fun to be around, sets a good example of a Christian lifestyle and is an incredible person to get to know.
